Diesel generators are heavy duty industrial type generators that can be used in either residential or commercial applications. Most of the advantage of diesel vs natural gas or propane lies within the area that you are located. Some places offer diesel for a cheaper price than the cost of installing a huge propane tank or having natural gas lines run out to the place of installation. Maybe you just prefer diesel fuel and like that the diesel generators that we offer have a built-in fuel tank. No matter what your reason is for choosing a diesel unit we'll help you narrow it down to get the best option for you. There are two different options that we’ll go over. The first thing you’ll have to decide is if you want one that is completely stationary or towable.
A fully stationary diesel generator just means that it is meant as an emergency backup unit. That is no different than any of the other home standby generators that we offer in regards to the unit being fully connected to a building. This type of generator will require you to choose the voltage option and will be preset to produce nothing other than that. Just like with the air cooled generators, you'll have to choose a transfer switch that matches the voltage so that there aren't any compatibility issues. You'll still have all of the advantages of a liquid cooled generator with the reliability of automatic home standby coverage. Some of these models even offer the option of extending the fuel tank so that you can run the generator for a significantly longer period of time.
A towable generator simply means that the generator can be moved around. That may not interest you if you plan on just using this as a backup to a building, but, if you have multiple applications that you would use the generator for than this will be perfect. A huge advantage that a couple of the towable generators offer would be the ability to change voltages at will. They are called switchable generators and that is something that very few generators can claim. Imagine that you have a building that you need to supply power to this week that is single phase and next week a different building that is three phase. Well this wouldn't be a problem at all because with a towable diesel generator you can move it around however you need to, and, if it's switchable you can change the voltages easily. Just like with full stationary models, this type of towable generator also offers an extended fuel tank in the trailer, which is sold separately. So, if you buy the trailer as well you will maximize the potential of the generator.
At the moment we only carry the Generac Diesel Generators. Generac provides their customers with the best quality generators that they can offer and provide you with warranties to stand behind their products. Once you've figured out whether stationary or towable diesel generators work best, then you can start to look into what size generator would be best for you.
