The differences in the design changes made to the 20RESCL-200SELs are an upgrade to the engine mounting block and the gas regulator. They were upgraded to allow for a lower gas pressure (3.5” water column). Benefit of the new 20RESCL-200SELS - if you have an older gas meter with the new 20RESCL – an upgrade may not need to be made to the gas meter-saving you time in permitting and not upgrading you gas meter (cost savings).

kohler 20 KW generator
I bought a Kohler for my home a year ago and I agree the hinges were garbage and fell apart. I bought little bolts with nylock nuts and now its fixed. It runs beautiful. Just bought another and it seems the hinge rivets are longer so I am thinking they got the message and fixed the problem.. Purrs like a kitten while keeping lights and A-C on..And, not the Chinese garbage

I wanted, like most people, a generator that runs, and powers up my home. I am a builder and use these units religiously for my clients, they are dependable, and do the job.

Broken Hinges
The unit works great except the hinges that support the lid, upon delivery the right side was broken after lifting the lid a second time the left broke. The design and quality of the hinges are terrible at best. They should look at gas struts like a Genrac.

DISAPPOINTED WITH COVER
Like another reviewer, the top lid hinge rivets on my Kohler 20RESCL-200SELS 20kW Generator were broken when we unpacked it and opened the top cover. The cover was held with only 1 rivet. My electrician looked at me, raised his eyebrows, and said "Really?". I am not sure he wants to provide a quote to install it now. Do I call Kohler and complain or just put some screws through the empty holes in the hinge? I sure didn't expect that kind of quality. I hope it runs once it is installed.

Disappointed
Product delivered as promised. When I unpacked the product, I opened the lid and it fell off in my hand. The rivets hadn't been installed properly. It really raised doubts as to the quality of the Kohler generator. I hope the generator is better than the plastic shell.

Great Reliability
Reliability is, after all, the real reason you have a generator to begin with. I have a buddy who is a generac dealer, and he made me a great offer to buy one. I told him I didn't want a Chinese generator, and that I wanted a Kohler. He said he wished he was a Kohler dealer, but couldn't land the deal. I bought the Kohler and he installed it. When it was done, he reiterated that I had made a good choice - better than his Generac, and that he would continue to pursue becoming a Kohler dealer. Nuff said?
I had a Kohler in my last house for over 10 years. It ran like a champ and got used a lot. (I lived in an East Coast forest and the power was always out. That's why I insisted on the Kohler - demonstrated reliability.
I don't really care for the high level of computer integration because I'm basically a motor guy - not a computer technician. Other than that, I have great expectations for this unit.. -
Works well so far
I've only had it for a week so far, so this is very preliminary. The unit went in without problems and works as advertised. Controls are simple but not easy to modify. I would rather have a test every 2 weeks instead of every week and a full load test once every 2 months. The generator is able to handle the whole house with capacity to spare.

Satisfied
Very satisfied with our Kohler 20RESAL-200SELS Purchase. Only reason I did not give the transaction 5 stars was there was a very minor dent in the housing. About half the size of a dime. I called AP Electric and they were extremely professional about it. As I did not lift of the box cover at delivery I just looked at the box for damage. My fault as I was instructed to inspect the unit and if there was any damage no matter how small I was to refuse delivery. Even though it was my fault AP Electric offered me a $50 discount coupon on a cold weather kit which I should ordered initially anyways. Very pleased with how AP Electric took care of me. Lesson learned inspect the generator carefully when it arrives
