The WGen7500 , the best generator for the "Average Homeowner"

Posted by RONALD CARNAHAN on Mar 12, 2021

I purchased this generator for the excellent features it boasted for the price. With the 3 year warranty , how could I go wrong ? Upon delivery , I started the easy wheel and leg assembly on this model. The frame was extremely well built and heavy duty. After adding the supplied oil and completing the initial start up procedures , I thought I would try the remote start that was one of the greatest features of this model. With gasoline in the 6.6 gal tank , I pressed on the remote control start button for one second , to my surprise , the green starting light flashed on the generator and it turned over about 2 or 3 times and fired right off !!! Ran smooth and actually quieter than the Generac generator i borrowed last year from a family member. I am so glad I made this purchase. I would recommend it to family , friends , and any average homeowner looking for a reasonably priced generator.......with more Bang for the Buck !!!

    Couldn't ask for more

Arrived via freight company. 2 guys off loaded. Removing container was straightforward and packing was not damaged. Added supplies oil to crankcase. Attached wires to battery. A little fuel and it started right away. Slightly louder than I expected, but available amperage for my needs is the key. It has run everything I have tested. Hve not used th ju s unit on RV trip, yet, but I'm sure it will be up to the task.
About the only negative comment us the weight. I had to build a rack for the rear of the RV (5th wheel) that would hold the 200#. I'm about to test this rack in real time conditions. The weight was adequately posted, so I knew what I was dealing with from the start.

Use it 6 days a week 12 hours a day.

Posted by Vern on Mar 18, 2018

I'm on unit number four. This unit runs 6 days a week, usually 12 hours a day.

The engine and 'service centers' are the weak points on this machine. Three engines have failed around 900 hrs. All three , tried the service center for warranty.......forget it. Went to factory and you ship they examine and will keep , repair or you pay to ship it back.

I worked for a school board for 14 years in the mechanical equipment repair shop. I change oil religiously, service air filters adjust valves and maintain clean cooling fins. Two of the engines had connecting rod failures. Both destroyed the blocks . The third I believe the governor came apart and went between the crank and can gear which pushed the can out through the side of the block. The fourth generator at 300 hrs had the spark plug wire fail ....no idea how or why. I suspect someone tried to remove it thinking it was a Honda engine as these connectors are ceramic and about $48.00 a piece. Westinghouse uses one that is bonded to the wire. Someone tried to unscrew it. I replaced it with a Honda aforementioned connector.

Other than weak engines, (even with) they are great generators for the money. Plenty of clean power, always starts, quiet compared to anything even close to its output. Fuel efficient (always use high test marine gas ) unit runs loaded for a full 12 hours a day as a rule. Oh, only had one other problem: as the 220 outlet burnt out. Possibly due to the male end plug? Would recommend highly if anyone is looking for a part-time portable generator. Even replacement every year, we have found nothing that will compare.
