Automatic transfer switches are ideal for home backup applications. Because they are automatic, they can restore power to your home within seconds, as opposed to a manual switch which could more than triple your down time. Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton and ASCO all make outstanding transfer switches. Generac's most popular transfer switch is RTS series. With the RTS transfer switch, you can choose to cover every circuit all the time or only essential circuits when paired with a generator sized to your application. RTS open transition transfer switches are ideal for residential, commercial and light industrial applications. Generac offers portable and business standby transfer switches as well.
Kohler Generators' RXT transfer switch is currently the only switch we are allowed to advertise. They offer a full line of residential and commercial transfer switches, however. If you create an account you can see the full line by accessing the Kohler Contractor Section. Kohler's switches can be installed indoors or outdoors depending on your preference. Like any product they make, you will find great reliability and convenience with their line of transfer switches.
Cummins Power Generation offers several types of transfer switches, including switches for RV generators. The Cummins Power Generation RSS 100-6868 & RSS 200-6869 service entrance automatic transfer switches do not have a control in them and can only be used on the Cummins Power Generation air cooled residential standby sets RS 13A & RS 20A. You can use the Cummins Power Generation RSS 100-6634 & RSS 200-6635 non service entrance on all of our residential products. The air cooled set will not load manage when the non-service entrance transfer switches are used.
Briggs & Stratton designs their transfer switches to transfer selected loads found in normal residential situations to generator power in the event of a power outage. The transfer switch monitors utility and generator voltages will automatically connect to the appropriate power source. Their switches are designed to be maintenance free, however, you should regularly inspect them for damage and wear and tear. The most important thing is keeping the transfer switch clean.
Emerson Network Power, better known as ASCO, has a wide variety of products from fire pumps to UPS systems. We’ve chosen to handle their residential and commercial transfer switches because of how reliable they are. As you’ve probably noticed we sell a lot of different generators, so, we’ve chosen to offer their products because ASCO transfer switches are universally compatible with any two-wire start generator. Both models have different advantages so we’ll break them into two and give you a brief overview on both of them. As with everything that we offer it is recommended that you speak with an electrician first before making a purchase, especially since ASCO transfer switches are special order and therefore not returnable.
