Generac RD01525 15kW Protector Series Diesel Generator Features:
Generac RD01525 15kW Protector Series Diesel Generator
The Generac RD01525 is a rugged and reliable 15kW diesel-powered standby generator, part of Generac’s advanced Protector™ Series—built to provide dependable backup power for residential and light commercial applications. Engineered with a focus on code compliance, long-term durability, and intuitive control, this model is an ideal solution for properties that require a compact yet powerful diesel generator with extended runtime capabilities.
At its core, the RD01525 is powered by a 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel engine operating at 1800 RPM, offering enhanced efficiency and longevity compared to higher-speed models. The engine is designed specifically for generator use, ensuring consistent performance under continuous load. The system delivers 62 amps at 120/240V single-phase and is available in multiple voltage configurations, including three-phase options, making it versatile for a variety of installation types.
This generator comes equipped with Generac’s Evolution™ Controller, a multilingual digital interface with color-coded, backlit buttons and a two-line LCD display, offering real-time status updates, maintenance tracking, and easy configuration. The system is Mobile Link™ compatible (sold separately), allowing for remote monitoring via smartphone or computer.
One of the standout features of this model is its Quiet-Test™ self-test mode, which allows the generator to run at a lower RPM during its weekly self-checks. This mode reduces both fuel consumption and operating noise, which is rated at a low 65 dB(A) during exercise mode and 70 dB(A) during full load operation—quiet enough for use near homes and occupied spaces.
Fuel efficiency is a strong suit of the RD01525, consuming approximately 0.79 gallons per hour at half load and 1.48 gallons per hour at full load. The generator is housed in a durable gray steel enclosure and includes a double-walled, UL 142-listed base fuel tank that minimizes the risk of leaks and simplifies regulatory compliance.
Installation and servicing are simplified thanks to removable side panels, an external viewing window, and an accessible breaker position. The unit is UL 2200 listed, EPA emissions certified, and backed by Generac’s 5-year limited warranty.

Finally
It is about time Generac finally came out with a diesel model of generator. I wish it could have been air-cooled instead of liquid cooled though. I live out in the middle of nowhere and diesel is a lot easier to get than propane. Not sure what equipment I will get to unload this. We can cross that bridge when we get there. All I know is I bought this gen and I hope it will do everything I need it to do. Based off my own calculations I need about 14kw so this 15 kw gen should be plenty of power. Can't wait!
