Portable and Recreational Vehicle (RV) generators allow you to power items while you are on the go. As you can see in this category there are several different ranges that you can choose from. What we’ll do is talk about each range individually as well as the items they can typically power.
800-2000 Watts: 800 Watts to 2000 watts isn't a lot of power. Generators of this size are really just for the bare minimum like lights, refrigerator, or other small appliances. Most of the time if you are using a portable generator or RV unit of this size then you aren't trying to power much at all. We recommend if you use a model this size, that you have added the wattages of all the items just to make sure you aren't under sizing the unit.
2500 Watts - 4500 Watts: 2500 watts to 4500 watts is still on the smaller side, but you’ve got a few more options as for what you can power. With a generator in this range you could power some additional items like a tv, microwave, steamer, crockpot, and other large appliances. One thing to keep in mind is that if you haven’t done any of the calculations then you won’t know where to start. Speak with your electrician before buying or give us a call when dealing with the smaller ranges.
5000 Watts - 6500 Watts: 5000 watts to 6500 watts will be average and can accommodate most items. This particular range is going to have the amount of power that most people will need to be comfortable whether they are backing up their home or their recreational vehicle. The power that they can provide can even be used in some commercial applications. We see a lot of food trucks that will get generators around this size that are able to handle the air conditioner, stove, etc. Since these are powerful enough to run items then they should be more than enough for residential use.
7000 Watts - 9500 Watts: 7000 to 9500 watt range is perfect for larger applications. What we see these units used for are definitely more on the large residential or light commercial side of things. If you have high demand items like multiple air conditioners or items that are rated at 240V it’s more likely that this is the range for you. Depending on the generator you pick they start to offer diesel fuel for some of the heavy-duty generators, but the portable generators are still just in gasoline unless you choose a bi/tri-fuel model.
10,000 Watts - 17,500 Watts: The last range that we offer is the 10.000 watt to 17,500 watt generators. These generators are just massive compared to all of the other generators and are really only meant for situations that have very large energy demands. As always we just want you to be able to get what is best for your installation so if you need one this size then we can help. Most people won’t, however, so we might ask you a couple of questions to determine if it’s the right fit.
