Indiana Tornado Contributes To Power Outages

Power outages have been reported in Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia, and Michigan as a tornado ravages Indiana.

More than 110,000 homes and businesses were without power in Tennessee. More than 100,000 homes and businesses were dark in Arkansas, greater than 75,000 customers were without power in Kentucky, 65,000 in Georgia, and 70,000 in Michigan.

The tornado in Indiana killed one and injured one. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center reported that more than 400 severe weather incidences occurred on Sunday. The in climate weather included strong winds and hail. Dozens of homes were damaged and thousands were without power as of Monday morning.

A large and violent tornado struck the outskirts of Indianapolis destroying several homes. According to television station WTHR, multiple structures were damaged in the wake of the tornado.

A tornado was confirmed to have struck Crane, Indiana. Large hail was also reported across the state on Sunday. Hail the size of a baseball and a tennis ball were reported in segments of the state.

The tornado then moved southeast into Kentucky delivering tennis ball size hail in Webster County in the western part of the state. Large hail was also reported in McLean and Union counties on Sunday evening. A tornado also touched down in Johnson County, south of Indianapolis on Sunday. At least 75 homes were damaged. A tornado was also reported in Johnson County, south of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon. The twister caused damage in several communities including Greenwood and Bargersville.

In Memphis, Tennessee, a utility company reported that nearly 120,000 homes and business were without power on Sunday. Storms that included strong winds knocked down trees and caused damage.

About 75,000 utility customers in southeastern Michigan were without power. Outages were also reported in southwestern Michigan. About 4,000 customers lost power in southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana and more than 2,000 outages occurred in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
