The 2015 Hurricane Season is Here: Be Prepared, Especially for Power Loss

With Hurricane Joaquin making its way to our friends on the East coast, the AP Electric & Generator team want to provide you with some important information to keep safe. As witnessed during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, these powerful storms can wreck havoc on homes, businesses, and residents, and we urge you to be prepared with these critical items:

  • One gallon of water per person per day, for drinking and sanitation;
  • Non-perishable food and a manual can opener;
  • A battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA weather radio with tone alert and extra batteries;
  • Flashlight and extra batteries;
  • First aid kit;
  • Whistle to signal for help;
  • Filter mask or cotton t-shirt, to help filter the air;
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation;
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities;
  • Plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place;
  • Important family documents in a waterproof container;
  • Items for unique family needs, such as daily prescription medications, infant formula or diapers:
  • Back-up power (generator should be checked if you have one and if you do not consider ordering one before available units are depleted).

Should you need a portable, home standby or commercial generator to provide back-up power and help keep the lights on and appliances working during this storm or others, the AP Electric & Generator team stands ready to provide assistance in choosing the right generator for your family or business. Contact us at (847) 516-8882 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday to discuss your back-up power needs, or shop/order from our extensive selection of generators and generator parts (over $4M in generator inventory) at www.apelectric.com 24 x 7.
